Patient:

Partially-Edentulous

All scans that you provide us need to be of the highest quality.

This new flow will reduce a substantial number of appointments and chair-time, but to have a positive outcome you must provide us with quality data. You can’t cut corners and expect good results.

This flow is designed for physicians who care about quality, and the well-being of their patients.

If you need to open the bite, do it prior to scanning the patient. All scans are required to be done at the proper VDO for accurate results. We are able to open the bite virtually, but the outcome will not be as accurate, and you might have to make some minor occlusal adjustments.

If the patient VDO is collapsed due to bruxism or other reasons, reconstruct the VDO by making an orthotic and having the patient wear it during the scans.

Pre-Planning Data Acquisition

Consider the Following

Partially edentulous patient cases may drastically vary from case to case based on the number of teeth remaining, accuracy of the bite, and position of the teeth. Questions need to be asked, such as:

  • Is the patient wearing a partial or not?

  • Where are the teeth on the partial?

  • Is it a metal partial or acrylic partial?

  • Are we opening the bite?

Based on the answers the flow may vary, but with our experience and constant support you are in good hands.

For a CBCT scan, remove metal partials due to the scatter that metal creates, but if the bite collapses then you will have to stabilize it with some type of putty or hard bite material.

For the IOS scan, if the bite is stable and the anterior teeth are present, then remove the posterior partial as it can be difficult to scan metal.

If the anterior teeth are part of the partial, scan the patient with the partial in place and again without it.

For the 3D facial scan, keep the partials in the patient’s mouth.

CBCT Scan

Please provide us with an accurate scan.

IOS Scan

Provide us with a maxillary and mandible scan of your patient following your manufacturer scanning strategy.

Capture all the tooth surfaces and as much of the soft tissue, pallet, and anatomical landmarks such as retro molar pad, vestibule, periphery roll, and tuberosities.

To facilitate this process, we highly recommend that you utilize the provided Ivoclar OptraGate, which will assist with the scanning process.

If the patient is wearing a partial, take a scan with and without it.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

It is extremely important to provide us with an accurate scan with no missing data points, or your case might be delayed as you would have to reschedule and rescan the patient. If one of your team members is scanning the patient, take a moment to verify that the data is accurate and complete.

InstaRisa Scan

Provide us with a full-facial scan of your patient’s natural and exaggerated smile.

  • If the patient does not show teeth, use cheek retractors to take the facial scan as we must see teeth in this scan.

  • If the patient is wearing a partial denture replacing anterior teeth, keep it place.

  • If using InstaRisa scanner take a bite scan.
